Liaoyang Petrochemical keeps a close eye on the market, achieving growth in both volume and profitability for its specialty products.

On July 21, Liaoyang Petrochemical reported robust production and sales for the first half of the year—particularly for products such as co-polyester and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. This success marks a pivotal move in the company’s market-oriented transformation, where "production follows the market."

"The market has changed, so our mindset must change too," said Wang Yuepeng, a supervisor in the Production Operations Department, pointing to a scheduling chart. "We used to simply sell whatever we produced; now, we’ve completely reversed that approach. We identify what the market lacks and which products command good prices, then adjust parameters and optimize formulations to precisely channel our production capacity into high-profit products." Through meticulous end-to-end control and the optimization of operating parameters, the company significantly boosted C6 aromatics yields and enhanced per-unit profitability, effectively transforming "molecular management" into "profitability management."

The flexibility of product switching on the olefin and polyester production lines is particularly impressive. To meet diverse downstream demands—ranging from geothermal piping and specialized materials for home appliances and automobiles to photovoltaic backsheet films—Liaoyang Petrochemical leveraged its mature process systems to efficiently execute frequent product-grade transitions. The company ensured stable production and supply of cross-linked polyethylene resin for geothermal piping, while successfully upgrading its polyester line from GX100 optical film to FS300 solar backsheet film, thereby securing a strategic foothold in high-end niche markets.

Addressing the long-standing reliance on external sourcing for high-end raw materials in Northeast China's waterproofing construction industry, Liaoyang Petrochemical took the initiative to collaborate with internal R&D institutes and affiliated enterprises. They streamlined the entire process—from laboratory formulation optimization and industrial-scale pilot testing to storage and logistics. After months of intensive effort, the F400 waterproofing asphalt consistently met all performance specifications and gained recognition from leading regional clients. The first batch of 1,000 tons was delivered in June, and the company plans to make continuous improvements based on customer feedback, aiming to secure a more significant position in the Northeast's waterproofing material supply chain.
